The Williamson Baptist Association (WBA) is a voluntary, non-profit association of churches in and around Williamson County, Texas. The WBA serves and assists these churches in achieving their mission.
Throughout this site you will find stories of churches the WBA has partnered with. From brand-new church plants to experienced churches, the WBA has been involved with churches on every level and walked beside them through the challenges of growth and change.
WBA Stories: Dr. Matt Hudson
In this day and age, planting a new church has become very common. Less common is taking older churches and steering them in a fresh new direction. This was the challenge Dr. Matt Hudson took on with First Baptist Church in Taylor, Texas. After years of serving as a missionary in Europe and working at a small Baptist church in Weatherford, Texas, Matt had come to the conclusion that the modern U.S. church was asking the wrong questions.“Churches are asking the wrong question in the States,” said Matt, “The question being how can we get more people in the building? The question needs to be how do we get the people in the building out into the community?”
This can be a difficult transition in thinking for an established church with 125 years under its belt.
To focus on the health of the church and move toward a missional model, Matt partnered with the WBA to begin the strategic planning process.
